#SCRIPTURE WRITING CHALLENGE 2018 FULL#
Here’s a spotify playlist I found that is full of beautiful Advent songs.), and would fast from holiday treats. Traditionally families wouldn’t set up their Christmas trees until Christmas Eve, wouldn’t sing Christmas carols (Sidenote: Did you know there are Advent carols? Songs like “O Come O Come Emmanuel” are actually Advent carols. I’ve done the advent wreath, I know how it’s about remembering the birth of Christ while looking forward to His return, I’ve opened the little doors that have candy behind them (oh, that’s not church tradition? It should be! 😉 ) But I’ve never really dug into the heart of Advent.Īdvent is actually sort of a mini Lent in the church calendar. I’ve always known bits of pieces of the way the Church has observed Advent for hundreds of years. There are tons of good books you can read on the church calendar ( this is a good one) so I’m not going to dig into that here. There’s so much beauty in using the seasons and holy days to get our hearts centered on our faith. One wonderful tradition that many followers of Jesus throughout history have leaned into is the church calendar. Over the last year, I have been digging into many aspects of faith I’ve never understood or practiced in the past. I, for one, know this advent season is vital for getting my heart and mind ready to celebrate the coming of Jesus and I’m going to lean into that with all my being. I’ve never experienced a season where the phrase “The Weary World Rejoices” rings more true.

No matter how excited we are for the upcoming holidays, there are shadows in the back of our minds of people missing from gatherings, not being able to gather at all, and just the weight of the world. I think we’re all entering this advent season with heaviness in our hearts. This Christmas season, you are invited to join in on an advent scripture writing challenge that will change your life!
